The Philadelphia Trip

The Philadelphia Trip is your opportunity to learn about hunger and homelessness while taking steps to do something about them--in other words, it's your chance to pursue justice.

Tzedakah in action...justice, justice you shall pursue.

The Philadelphia Trip is a different kind of community service because as a participant you deal directly with the people you are helping. This allows you to talk to and learn from the homeless men and women you meet. Hearing their stories of pain and triumph gives you insight into their world—insight you can’t gain in a classroom or from a book.

Insight

Many of the people you will meet have college degrees, families, and had good jobs at one time. You will be surprised at their willingness to tell you about what their life is like living on the streets and how they got there.

A unique experience

The Philadelphia trip is both educational and fun. In addition to learning and performing community service, you will engage in many social activities while meeting other Jewish teens from the Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts areas.

Make a difference

The Philadelphia Trip will take place from February 19 - 21, 2011. Participants need not be enrolled in other Midrasha classes, but all participants are required to attend three pre- and post- trip learning sessions. If you are interested in participating in this special opportunity, contact Jana Brenman, Director of Teen Education via email at: jbrenman@bjeri.org or by calling 401.331.0956 x181.
